Chrysler was founded by Walter P. Chrysler in 1925.
Walter Chrysler had previously worked for General Motors and then joined the struggling Maxwell Motor Company in 1920. He quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed president of Maxwell in 1923. However, he soon realized that the company was not profitable and that it needed a major overhaul.
Chrysler convinced a group of bankers to lend him the money he needed to buy the company and reorganize it. He renamed the company Chrysler Corporation and began producing a line of cars under the Chrysler brand.
The first Chrysler car was the Chrysler Six, which was introduced in 1924. The car featured a six-cylinder engine and was marketed as a high-quality, affordable alternative to luxury cars.
Under Chrysler's leadership, the company grew rapidly and introduced several innovative features, including the first mass-produced four-wheel hydraulic brakes and the first fully automatic transmission.
Over the years, Chrysler has gone through several changes in ownership and has merged with other car companies, including Dodge and Jeep. Today, it is part of Stellantis, a multinational automotive corporation.
